Job Description

Welcome to the Division of Ophthalmology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia! We are currently seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Orthoptist to join our team. As an Orthoptist, you will play a crucial role in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders in children.   1. Conduct comprehensive assessments of pediatric patients with eye disorders, including visual acuity, eye movement, and binocular vision testing.
  2. Collaborate with ophthalmologists and other members of the healthcare team to develop and implement treatment plans for patients.
  3. Perform specialized procedures and treatments such as occlusion therapy and visual field testing.
  4. Educate patients and their families on eye health and treatment options.
  5. Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and documentation.
  6. Stay current with advancements in pediatric ophthalmology and participate in ongoing education and training opportunities.
  7. Help create a welcoming and comfortable environment for pediatric patients and their families.
  8. Adhere to all safety protocols and infection control guidelines.
  9. Assist with the coordination and scheduling of appointments and procedures.
  10. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues to ensure optimal patient care and satisfaction.
  11. Adhere to ethical and legal standards in all aspects of job responsibilities.
  12. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the overall success of the Division of Ophthalmology.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Orthoptics Or Related Field: A Strong Educational Background In Orthoptics Is Essential For This Role, As It Demonstrates A Thorough Understanding Of The Field And Its Principles.

  • Certification As A Registered Orthoptist: Many States Require Orthoptists To Be Registered In Order To Practice, And Having This Certification Shows A Commitment To Professionalism And Continued Education.

  • Experience Working With Pediatric Patients: Children's Hospital Of Philadelphia Specializes In Pediatric Care, So Experience Working With Young Patients Is Highly Valued. This Includes Knowledge Of Child Development And Techniques For Working With Children.

  • Familiarity With Ophthalmology Equipment And Procedures: Orthoptists Work Closely With Ophthalmologists, So Having Knowledge Of Common Eye Examination Equipment And Procedures Is Crucial For Success In This Role.
