
Ophthalmology Technician

- Perform diagnostic tests: Conduct various diagnostic tests such as visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and color vision tests under the supervision of ophthalmologists.
- Prepare patients for examinations: Greet patients and their families, explain procedures, and assist with preparing them for eye examinations.
- Maintain equipment: Ensure that all ophthalmology equipment is properly maintained and calibrated for accurate testing results.
- Assist with procedures: Assist ophthalmologists during procedures such as eye surgeries, laser treatments, and injections.
- Record patient information: Accurately record patient histories, symptoms, and test results in electronic medical records.
- Educate patients and families: Provide information and education to patients and their families regarding eye conditions, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
- Collaborate with healthcare team: Work closely with ophthalmologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible care for patients.
- Maintain inventory: Monitor and maintain inventory of ophthalmology supplies and equipment.
- Ensure safety and infection control: Follow proper safety and infection control protocols to maintain a safe and clean environment for patients and staff.
- Continuously learn and improve: Stay updated on new developments in ophthalmology and pediatric healthcare and participate in training and educational opportunities to continually improve skills and knowledge.
- Provide emotional support: Offer compassion and support to young patients and their families during procedures and treatments.
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures: Follow all hospital policies and procedures to maintain a high standard of patient care and safety.
- Uphold patient confidentiality: Respect and maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Maintain a positive attitude: Foster a positive and welcoming environment for patients, families, and colleagues.
- Represent the hospital: Serve as a representative of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, embodying its mission and values in all interactions with patients and their families.
Excellent Communication Skills And Ability To Work Effectively With Children And Their Families.
Certified Ophthalmic Technician (Cot) Or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (Coa) Credential From The Joint Commission On Allied Health Personnel In Ophthalmology (Jcahpo).
Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience As An Ophthalmic Technician, Preferably In A Pediatric Setting.
Knowledge And Proficiency In Performing Diagnostic Tests And Procedures Such As Visual Acuity Testing, Tonometry, And Optical Coherence Tomography (Oct).
Strong Attention To Detail And Ability To Maintain Accurate And Organized Patient Records.
