- Utilize expertise in human genetics to interpret and explain complex genetic information and test results to patients and families.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients based on their genetic information.
- Stay up-to-date with advancements in the field of human genetics and incorporate new knowledge into counseling sessions and patient care.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals to ensure understanding and cooperation in treatment plans.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient consultations and treatment plans in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Participate in research projects and clinical trials related to human genetics and genetic counseling.
- Provide education and resources to patients and families to help them understand and cope with the implications of their genetic information.
- Collaborate with insurance companies and other third-party payers to obtain coverage for genetic testing and counseling services.
- Adhere to all ethical and legal guidelines for genetic counseling and patient confidentiality.
- Serve as a resource and mentor to other healthcare professionals, students, and community members on issues related to human genetics and genetic counseling.
- Work closely with the interdisciplinary team to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for patients and their families.
- Participate in departmental meetings, conferences, and continuing education opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in the field of genetic counseling.
- Advocate for patients and their families by addressing any barriers to obtaining necessary genetic testing and counseling services.
- Maintain a compassionate and empathetic approach to counseling and support patients and families through difficult decisions and emotional challenges.
Master's Degree In Genetic Counseling From An Accredited Program.
Certification From The American Board Of Genetic Counseling (Abgc) Or The American Board Of Medical Genetics And Genomics (Abmgg).
Minimum Of 2 Years Of Clinical Experience In Human Genetics Counseling.
Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Interact With Patients, Families, And Healthcare Providers.
In-Depth Knowledge Of Genetic Testing, Risk Assessment, And Counseling Techniques For Various Genetic Conditions And Syndromes.
