Job Description

Are you a compassionate and highly skilled professional with experience in child development and crisis intervention? If so, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Child Life Specialist to join our Emergency Department team. As a Child Life Specialist, you will play a crucial role in providing emotional support and developmental interventions to pediatric patients and their families during their time of crisis. This is a unique opportunity to use your expertise and empathy to help children and families cope with the challenges of emergency medical care.

  1. Provide emotional support and guidance to pediatric patients and their families during their time of crisis.
  2. Develop and implement age-appropriate interventions to help children cope with the challenges of emergency medical care.
  3. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to create a holistic and individualized care plan for each patient.
  4. Assess and address the psychosocial needs of patients and families, including cultural and religious considerations.
  5. Utilize knowledge of child development and family systems to support patients and families through difficult situations.
  6. Utilize play and other creative techniques to help children understand and process their medical experiences.
  7. Educate and prepare patients and families for medical procedures and treatments in a developmentally appropriate manner.
  8. Advocate for the emotional and psychosocial needs of pediatric patients and their families within the healthcare team.
  9. Document interventions and progress in patient records.
  10. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to the development of hospital policies and procedures related to child life services.
  11. Engage in ongoing professional development and stay updated on best practices in child life and crisis intervention.
  12. Maintain a safe, clean, and child-friendly environment within the Emergency Department.
  13. Collaborate with community organizations and volunteers to provide additional support and resources for patients and families.
  14. Ensure compliance with ethical and legal standards related to child life services.
  15. Serve as a positive and compassionate role model for patients, families, and colleagues.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Or Master's Degree In Child Life, Child Development, Or A Related Field.

  • Certification As A Certified Child Life Specialist (Ccls) From The Child Life Council.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Experience Working As A Child Life Specialist In A Hospital Setting, Preferably In An Emergency Department.

  • Strong Understanding Of Child Development And Coping Mechanisms For Children In Stressful Situations.

  • Ability To Communicate Effectively With Children, Families, And Interdisciplinary Team Members In A Fast-Paced And High-Stress Environment.
