Job Description

Look no further, because Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is seeking a dedicated Child Life Specialist to join our Emergency Department team. In this role, you will provide emotional support and therapeutic intervention to pediatric patients and their families during their time of crisis. We are seeking candidates with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Child Life, Child Development, or a related field, along with a minimum of 2 years of experience working with children in a healthcare setting.   1. Provide emotional support and therapeutic intervention to pediatric patients and their families during their time of crisis.
  2. Collaborate with medical staff to assess patient needs and develop individualized care plans.
  3. Utilize child life techniques and interventions to support patients through medical procedures and treatments.
  4. Create and implement age-appropriate activities and programming to promote coping and normalization for patients.
  5. Develop relationships and establish rapport with patients and families to build trust and ensure a positive experience.
  6. Advocate for the emotional and psychosocial needs of pediatric patients within the healthcare setting.
  7. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to address patient and family concerns and provide holistic care.
  8. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient interactions and progress.
  9. Stay up-to-date on best practices and techniques in child life and pediatric healthcare.
  10. Participate in departmental and hospital-wide initiatives and programs to support the well-being of pediatric patients.
  11. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues to ensure a collaborative and supportive environment.
  12. Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity in working with diverse patient populations and families.
  13. Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, as well as ethical and professional standards.
  14. Continuously evaluate and improve the quality of child life services provided.
  15. Serve as a resource and mentor for students and new child life specialists.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Or Master's Degree In Child Life, Child Development, Psychology, Or Related Field.

  • Certification As A Child Life Specialist Through The Child Life Council.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Experience Working As A Child Life Specialist In A Pediatric Hospital Setting.

  • Experience And Knowledge In Emergency Department Procedures And Protocols For Pediatric Patients.

  • Ability To Effectively Communicate And Collaborate With Multidisciplinary Teams, Including Medical Staff, Parents, And Patients.
