Job Description

Children's Hospital Colorado is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team as a Medication Safety Specialist. In this role, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective use of medications for our pediatric patients. We are looking for a dedicated individual who is passionate about patient safety and has a strong background in pharmacology and medication management.   1. Develop and implement medication safety protocols and procedures to ensure safe and effective administration of medications to pediatric patients.
  2. Conduct regular audits and reviews of medication orders, dosages, and administration techniques to identify and prevent potential errors.
  3. Collaborate with healthcare providers, including physicians, pharmacists, and other nurses, to ensure proper medication prescribing, dispensing, and administration practices.
  4. Educate and train staff on medication safety practices, including proper dosage calculation, medication storage, and handling of potential adverse reactions.
  5. Monitor and track medication errors and near-misses, and develop strategies to prevent future occurrences.
  6. Stay updated on current research and best practices in pediatric medication safety and incorporate them into hospital policies and procedures.
  7. Participate in multidisciplinary quality improvement teams to address medication safety concerns and implement solutions.
  8. Serve as a resource for healthcare providers and families regarding medication safety and potential interactions or adverse effects.
  9. Collaborate with the pharmacy department to ensure accurate and timely medication delivery and reconciliation.
  10. Maintain accurate and detailed records of medication safety processes, audits, and educational initiatives.
  11. Communicate and work closely with patients and their families to ensure understanding of medication regimens and potential side effects.
  12. Adhere to all hospital and regulatory guidelines and standards related to medication safety.
  13. Act as a liaison between the hospital and external organizations related to medication safety, such as regulatory agencies and medication safety committees.
  14. Continuously assess and improve medication safety practices and processes to ensure the highest level of care for pediatric patients.
  15. Provide compassionate and empathetic care to patients and their families, while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality at all times.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Nursing: A Registered Nurse - Medication Safety Specialist At Children's Hospital Colorado Must Hold A Bachelor's Degree In Nursing From An Accredited Institution.

  • Active Rn License: The Candidate Must Possess An Active Rn License In The State Of Colorado, Or Be Able To Obtain One Prior To Starting Employment.

  • Medication Safety Experience: The Ideal Candidate Should Have At Least 3-5 Years Of Experience In A Pediatric Healthcare Setting, With A Focus On Medication Safety And Quality Improvement.

  • Knowledge Of Medication Safety Standards: The Candidate Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Medication Safety Standards And Best Practices, Including Those Set Forth By Regulatory Agencies Such As The Joint Commission And The Institute For Safe Medication Practices.

  • Strong Communication And Collaboration Skills: The Role Of A Medication Safety Specialist Requires Frequent Communication And Collaboration With Various Healthcare Professionals, Including Physicians, Nurses, And Pharmacists. The Candidate Should Possess Excellent Communication Skills And The Ability To Work Well In A Team Setting.
