  1. Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood specimens from pediatric patients in a safe and efficient manner.
  2. Properly label and transport collected specimens to the laboratory for testing.
  3. Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all phlebotomy procedures and patient information.
  4. Educate young patients and their families about the phlebotomy process and address any concerns or questions they may have.
  5. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper disposal of biohazardous materials.
  6. Follow all safety protocols and infection control measures to prevent cross-contamination and maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  7. Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and provide assistance as needed.
  8. Handle difficult or anxious patients with care and compassion, utilizing appropriate techniques to ensure a positive experience.
  9. Stay up-to-date on best practices and changes in phlebotomy techniques and equipment.
  10. Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations, to ensure high-quality patient care and compliance.

Job Qualifications
  • Certification In Phlebotomy: Candidates For A Phlebotomist Position At Children's Hospital Colorado Should Hold A Current Certification In Phlebotomy From A Recognized Accrediting Agency, Such As The American Society For Clinical Pathology (Ascp) Or The National Phlebotomy Association (Npa).

  • Experience Working With Pediatric Patients: Children's Hospital Colorado Specifically Seeks Candidates With Experience Working With Pediatric Patients. This Could Include Previous Employment At A Children's Hospital Or Pediatric Clinic, Or Experience In A Pediatric-Focused Phlebotomy Program.

  • Knowledge Of Pediatric Anatomy And Physiology: In Addition To Experience Working With Pediatric Patients, Candidates Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Pediatric Anatomy And Physiology. This Knowledge Is Crucial For Accurately Identifying And Accessing Veins In Children, Who May Have Smaller Or More Difficult-To-Find Veins Than Adults.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Since Phlebotomists At Children's Hospital Colorado Will Be Working With Young Patients And Their Families, Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential. Candidates Should Be Able To Explain Procedures In A Child-Friendly Manner And Provide Emotional Support To Patients And Their Families.

  • Attention To Detail And Accuracy: Phlebotomists Are Responsible For Collecting And Labeling Blood Samples And Ensuring They Are Properly Processed And Stored. Therefore, Candidates Should Have A Keen Attention To Detail And Be Able To Accurately Follow Procedures To Avoid Errors Or Contamination.
