- Conduct comprehensive eye exams on pediatric patients, including measuring visual acuity, assessing eye movements, and performing diagnostic tests.
- Assist ophthalmologists in various procedures such as refractions, contact lens fittings, and minor surgeries.
- Educate patients and their families on proper eye care and treatment plans.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient exams, procedures, and treatments.
- Prepare and maintain ophthalmic equipment and instruments for use in exams and procedures.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for patients.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to provide exceptional customer service.
- Stay up-to-date on advances in ophthalmic technology and techniques to provide the best possible care for patients.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and infection control measures to maintain a safe and clean environment for patients and staff.
- Provide support and guidance to other team members, including training new technicians and students.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of best practices for eye care in pediatric patients.
- Demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and compassion in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, including maintaining patient confidentiality and following HIPAA regulations.
- Attend and actively participate in departmental meetings and trainings to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors or ophthalmologists.
Certified Ophthalmic Technician (Cot) Or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (Comt) Credential From The Joint Commission On Allied Health Personnel In Ophthalmology (Jcahpo).
Minimum Of 2 Years Experience As An Ophthalmic Technician In A Pediatric Setting.
Knowledge And Proficiency In Ophthalmic Equipment And Procedures, Including Refraction, Visual Acuity Testing, Tonometry, And Ocular Motility Exams.
Familiarity With Electronic Medical Records And Ability To Accurately Document Patient Information.
Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Work Effectively With Pediatric Patients And Their Families.
