- Provide developmentally appropriate interventions and activities for children in the hospital to promote emotional well-being and enhance their hospital experience.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to assess the needs of young patients and develop individualized care plans.
- Use a variety of techniques, such as play therapy and art therapy, to help children cope with the challenges of hospitalization and medical procedures.
- Offer emotional support and guidance to children and their families throughout their hospital stay.
- Educate and prepare children for medical procedures and surgeries to reduce anxiety and increase their understanding.
- Utilize knowledge of child development to support children's growth and development during their hospitalization.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of interventions and progress for each patient.
- Communicate and collaborate with parents, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care for children.
- Stay current on research and best practices in child life and apply this knowledge to enhance the care provided to young patients.
- Participate in hospital-wide initiatives and programs to promote the well-being of children and families.
- Advocate for the needs and rights of children in the hospital setting.
- Continuously assess and evaluate the effectiveness of child life interventions and adjust as needed.
- Provide emotional support and debriefing for staff dealing with difficult cases or situations.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions with patients and families.
- Act as a resource and provide guidance to other healthcare professionals on child and family dynamics and the role of child life in the hospital setting.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and maintain certification from the Child Life Council.
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of patients, families, and staff.
