- Provide animal-assisted therapy to pediatric patients in a hospital setting, utilizing a specially trained medical dog.
- Collaborate with the child life team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients.
- Assess patients' emotional and developmental needs and develop appropriate interventions.
- Educate patients and families on the benefits of animal-assisted therapy and how it can aid in their healing process.
- Work closely with the medical dog to ensure their well-being and safety at all times.
- Maintain accurate records of patient interactions and progress.
- Collaborate with other hospital staff, including doctors and nurses, to ensure the medical dog's presence is appropriate for each patient.
- Provide support and comfort to patients and families during difficult procedures and medical treatments.
- Conduct training sessions for hospital staff on the role of the medical dog and how to interact with them.
- Stay updated on current research and best practices in the field of animal-assisted therapy and child life services.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including infection control protocols.
- Participate in special events and programs to promote the use of animal-assisted therapy in healthcare.
- Maintain the medical dog's certifications and ensure they are up-to-date.
- Represent the hospital and the medical dog program in a professional and positive manner.
- Continuously evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the medical dog program.
Certification As A Registered Therapy Dog Through An Accredited Organization Such As Pet Partners Or Alliance Of Therapy Dogs.
Completion Of Specialized Training In Child Life Services, With A Focus On Child Development, Therapeutic Play, And Family-Centered Care.
Experience Working In A Pediatric Healthcare Setting, Preferably In A Hospital Or Medical Setting.
Ability To Work With A Multidisciplinary Team And Collaborate With Healthcare Providers, Child Life Specialists, And Other Hospital Staff.
