Job Description

Responsibilities of a Health Information Management Document Technician:

  • Collect, review, analyze, and record medical information from paper and electronic documentation
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of medical records by verifying that documents are properly filed and labeled
  • Ensure patient confidentiality at all times by adhering to HIPAA regulations
  • Process requests for medical records from various sources, including physicians and other healthcare providers
  • Maintain and update patient records in accordance with coding and billing regulations
  • Provide customer service by responding to inquiries from patients, family members, and other healthcare providers
  • Enter data into electronic health record systems
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to electronic health records
  • Monitor and audit medical records for compliance with applicable laws and regulations
