
Unit Secretary, Medical/Surgical Unit

In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting our healthcare professionals and ensuring the smooth operation of our unit. - Greet and welcome patients, families, and visitors to the Medical/Surgical Unit in a friendly and professional manner.
- Maintain a clean and organized unit by restocking supplies, organizing paperwork, and ensuring equipment is in working order.
- Answer phone calls and direct them to the appropriate healthcare professional or department.
- Schedule and coordinate appointments, procedures, and consultations for patients.
- Assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge process for patients.
- Record and maintain accurate patient information in electronic medical records.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals, patients, and their families to ensure quality care is delivered.
- Monitor and maintain patient charts, including updating information, ordering tests, and notifying healthcare team of any changes.
- Manage and prioritize multiple tasks, such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, and assisting with patient care.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, as well as patient confidentiality and safety guidelines.
- Utilize computer systems and software to complete tasks efficiently and accurately.
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients and their families by addressing their needs and concerns.
- Attend and actively participate in meetings and trainings to stay updated on unit processes and procedures.
- Collaborate with other unit secretaries and healthcare professionals to ensure smooth and efficient operations of the unit.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude in a fast-paced and dynamic healthcare environment.
Knowledge Of Medical Terminology: A Unit Secretary At Atrium Health Must Possess A Strong Understanding Of Medical Terminology And Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Medical Professionals.
Computer Skills: The Use Of Electronic Medical Records Is A Critical Aspect Of The Role, So Proficiency In Computer Skills And Familiarity With Software Programs Such As Microsoft Office Is Essential.
Strong Organizational Skills: The Medical/Surgical Unit Can Be A Fast-Paced And Busy Environment, So A Unit Secretary Must Be Able To Handle Multiple Tasks And Prioritize Effectively.
