  1. Facilitate effective communication between healthcare professionals and Spanish-speaking patients.
  2. Provide accurate interpretation of medical information and instructions.
  3. Interpret for patients during medical appointments, procedures, and consultations.
  4. Assist with paperwork, forms, and other administrative tasks that require interpretation.
  5. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines at all times.
  6. Help educate healthcare professionals on cultural sensitivity and appropriate communication with Spanish-speaking patients.
  7. Collaborate with other interpreters and healthcare staff to ensure consistent and high-quality interpretation services.
  8. Stay updated on medical terminology and procedures to ensure accurate interpretation.
  9. Remain calm and professional in high-stress situations, such as emergencies or difficult conversations.
  10. Show empathy and compassion towards patients, making them feel comfortable and understood.
  11. Attend trainings and workshops to improve interpretation skills and cultural competency.
  12. Adhere to the code of ethics and standards of practice for healthcare interpreters.
  13. Communicate effectively with patients, healthcare professionals, and other team members.
  14. Maintain accurate records of interpretation services provided.
  15. Follow all safety protocols and guidelines while working in healthcare settings.
  16. Assist in scheduling interpretation services and coordinating with other staff members.
  17. Provide support to patients and their families during difficult medical situations.
  18. Continuously strive to improve and enhance the interpretation services provided.
  19. Represent Atrium Health in a professional and positive manner at all times.
  20. Adhere to all company policies and procedures.

Job Qualifications
  • Fluency In Spanish: The Primary Qualification For A Spanish Healthcare Interpreter At Atrium Health Is Proficiency In Both Written And Spoken Spanish. This Includes The Ability To Accurately Interpret Medical Terminology And Communicate Effectively With Spanish-Speaking Patients.

  • Medical Interpretation Certification: Atrium Health Requires All Spanish Healthcare Interpreters To Have A Certification In Medical Interpretation, Such As The National Board Of Certification For Medical Interpreters (Nbcmi) Or The Certification Commission For Healthcare Interpreters (Cchi).

  • Knowledge Of Healthcare Terminology: Candidates For This Position Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Medical Terminology In Both Spanish And English. This Includes Knowledge Of Anatomy, Physiology, And Common Medical Procedures And Treatments.

  • Cultural Competence: Atrium Health Places A Strong Emphasis On Cultural Competence In Their Healthcare Services. As Such, Spanish Healthcare Interpreters Must Have A Deep Understanding Of Hispanic/Latino Cultural Norms, Beliefs, And Practices To Effectively Communicate And Assist Patients.
