- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, ensuring accuracy and quality control.
- Embed tissue specimens in paraffin blocks and cut thin sections using a microtome.
- Perform routine and special staining techniques on tissue samples.
- Prepare and maintain reagents and solutions for histological procedures.
- Identify and troubleshoot technical issues or abnormalities in tissue samples.
- Maintain accurate records of all tests performed and ensure timely completion of reports.

- Train and mentor new histotechnologists and laboratory assistants.

Bachelor's Degree In Histotechnology Or A Related Field: Atrium Health Requires All Histotechnologists To Have A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Histotechnology Or A Related Field Such As Biology, Chemistry, Or Medical Laboratory Science. This Ensures That Candidates Have A Strong Foundation In The Principles Of Histology And Laboratory Techniques.
Certification As A Histotechnologist (Ht) Or Histotechnician (Htl): Atrium Health Prefers Candidates Who Have Obtained Certification As A Histotechnologist (Ht) Or Histotechnician (Htl) From A Recognized Certifying Agency Such As The American Society For Clinical Pathology (Ascp).
