  1. Perform ECMO procedures and techniques with precision and accuracy to provide life-saving treatment to critically ill patients.
  2. Monitor and assess patient's condition while on ECMO support, identifying any changes or complications and taking appropriate action.
  3. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients on ECMO support.
  4. Educate patients and their families on the purpose and process of ECMO treatment, addressing any concerns or questions.
  5. Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient progress, treatment plans, and any changes in condition.
  6. Troubleshoot and respond to alarms and equipment malfunctions during ECMO support, ensuring patient safety and optimal treatment.
  7. Stay up-to-date with advancements in ECMO technology and treatment protocols, incorporating new techniques and procedures into practice as appropriate.
  8. Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, providing updates and collaborating on patient care plans.
  9. Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  10. Demonstrate compassion and empathy towards patients and their families, providing emotional support during a difficult time.

Job Qualifications
  • Current Rn Or Rt Licensure: The Ideal Candidate For This Position Should Have A Current And Active Registered Nurse (Rn) Or Respiratory Therapist (Rt) License In The State Of North Carolina.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Critical Care Experience: This Position Requires A Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In A Critical Care Setting, Preferably In Adult Or Pediatric Intensive Care. Experience With Ecmo Is Highly Desirable.

  • Ecmo Certification: Atrium Health Requires All Ecmo Specialists To Have A Current Ecmo Certification From An Accredited Organization Such As The Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (Elso).

  • Strong Knowledge Of Ecmo Equipment And Procedures: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Ecmo Equipment And Procedures, Including Cannulation, Circuit Management, And Troubleshooting.

  • Excellent Communication And Teamwork Skills: As Ecmo Specialists Work Closely With A Multidisciplinary Team, Strong Communication And Teamwork Skills Are Essential For This Position. The Ability To Remain Calm And Focused In High-Stress Situations Is Also Important.
