- Lead and oversee the radiation safety program at Atrium Health, including developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Provide expert guidance and support to healthcare professionals in the safe and effective use of radiation in medical procedures.
- Stay up-to-date with current research, technology, and industry trends related to radiation safety and make recommendations for improvements to the program.
- Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to identify potential hazards and implement strategies to mitigate risks associated with radiation use.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with radiation safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and deliver training programs for staff on radiation safety best practices and procedures.
- Serve as a resource for radiation safety questions and concerns from staff and patients.
- Monitor radiation exposure levels for staff and patients and take corrective action when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to radiation safety activities.
- Participate in relevant committees and work groups to represent the radiation safety program and provide input on safety-related matters.
- Stay current on changes to regulations and standards related to radiation safety and implement necessary updates to the program.
- Collaborate with radiation safety officers from other healthcare facilities to share best practices and stay current on industry trends.
- Foster a culture of safety and accountability by promoting radiation safety awareness and education throughout the organization.
- Conduct investigations and root cause analysis of any incidents or near misses related to radiation safety.
- Communicate with external agencies and regulatory bodies as needed regarding radiation safety matters.
Advanced Degree: A Chief Med Physicist At Atrium Health Should Possess A Minimum Of A Master's Degree In Medical Physics Or A Related Field. A Phd Is Preferred.
Board Certification: The Candidate Should Be Board Certified By The American Board Of Radiology (Abr) Or The American Board Of Medical Physics (Abmp).
Extensive Experience: The Ideal Candidate Should Have At Least 10 Years Of Experience In Clinical Medical Physics, With A Focus On Radiation Safety And Regulatory Compliance.
Leadership Skills: As A Chief Med Physicist, The Candidate Will Be Responsible For Overseeing A Team Of Medical Physicists And Ensuring The Safe And Efficient Delivery Of Radiation Therapy Services. Strong Leadership Skills And Experience In Managing A Team Are Essential.
Knowledge Of Regulations: A Thorough Understanding Of Federal And State Regulations Related To Radiation Safety, Including Those From The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (Nrc) And The Joint Commission, Is Necessary For This Role. Experience With Regulatory Inspections And Audits Is Also Preferred.
