Develop and drive the overall chemistry strategy for AstraZeneca's drug discovery projects.
Lead and manage a team of chemists to ensure the successful execution of the chemistry strategy.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize drug discovery projects.
Provide strategic input and expertise on target and lead molecule selection.
Evaluate and implement new technologies and techniques to enhance drug discovery efforts.
Oversee the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel compounds.
Analyze and interpret data to guide decision-making and drive project progression.
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines.
Foster an environment of innovation and continuous improvement within the medicinal chemistry team.
Develop and maintain relationships with external partners and vendors.
Stay current with industry developments and trends in medicinal chemistry.
Provide guidance and mentorship to team members to support their professional growth.
Communicate and present updates on project progress, challenges, and opportunities to senior leadership.

Job Qualifications

Extensive Experience In Medicinal Chemistry: A Successful Candidate For This Position Should Have At Least 10 Years Of Experience In Medicinal Chemistry, With A Proven Track Record Of Delivering Innovative Drug Candidates.
Strong Leadership And Strategic Thinking Skills: As A Senior Director, Medicinal Chemistry Strategy, The Individual Will Be Responsible For Leading And Managing A Team Of Medicinal Chemists. Therefore, Strong Leadership Skills And The Ability To Think Strategically Are Essential Qualifications For This Role.
In-Depth Knowledge Of Drug Discovery Processes: A Thorough Understanding Of The Drug Discovery Process, Including Target Identification, Hit-To-Lead Optimization, And Lead Optimization, Is Crucial For This Position.
