Job Description

Ascension Health is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care and assisting our ophthalmologists in diagnosing and treating various eye conditions.   1. Perform various ophthalmic tests and procedures, including visual acuity, lensometry, and tonometry.
  2. Administer eye drops and other medications as directed by the ophthalmologist.
  3. Assist ophthalmologists in surgical procedures and maintain a sterile environment.
  4. Document patient medical histories, symptoms, and test results accurately and efficiently.
  5. Educate patients on proper eye care and post-operative instructions.
  6. Maintain and calibrate ophthalmic equipment.
  7. Prepare and maintain examination rooms for patient visits.
  8. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
  9. Follow all safety and infection control protocols.
  10. Keep up-to-date with advancements in ophthalmic technology and procedures.
  11. Provide exceptional customer service and ensure patient satisfaction.
  12. Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  13. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
  14. Assist with administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments and maintaining patient records.
  15. Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.

Job Qualifications
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (Cot) Or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technician (Comt) Credential From The Joint Commission On Allied Health Personnel In Ophthalmology (Jcahpo).

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In A Clinical Or Hospital Setting, Preferably In Ophthalmology.

  • Proficiency In Ophthalmic Diagnostic Testing And Procedures, Including Visual Acuity Testing, Slit Lamp Biomicroscopy, And Tonometry.

  • Knowledge Of Ophthalmic Medications And Ability To Assist With Patient Education On Proper Use And Administration.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Effectively Collaborate With Ophthalmologists, Nurses, And Other Healthcare Professionals.
