- Assist surgeons in performing surgical procedures by providing necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment.
- Prepare and maintain a sterile field in the operating room.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and proactively provide support during procedures.
- Handle and pass surgical instruments to the surgeon in a timely and efficient manner.
- Assist in positioning and draping the patient for surgery.
- Monitor and maintain proper levels of sterile supplies and equipment in the operating room.
- Ensure all equipment is functioning properly and report any malfunctions.
- Handle and dispose of surgical specimens according to established protocols.
- Adhere to infection control and safety protocols to maintain a safe and sterile environment.
- Provide patient education and support before and after surgery.
- Collaborate with other members of the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Keep accurate records and documentation of all procedures performed.
- Participate in ongoing education and training to maintain and improve skills and knowledge.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures.
- Maintain a professional and compassionate attitude towards patients, their families, and colleagues.
Certification As A Surgical First Assistant: Candidates Should Hold A Valid Certification As A Surgical First Assistant From An Accredited Organization Such As The National Board Of Surgical Technology And Surgical Assisting (Nbstsa).
Surgical Experience: A Minimum Of 2-3 Years Of Experience In A Surgical Setting, Preferably In A Hospital Or Healthcare Facility, Is Required For This Role. Candidates Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Surgical Procedures, Instruments, And Equipment.
Knowledge Of Sterilization And Infection Control: As A Surgical First Assistant, Candidates Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Sterilization Techniques And Infection Control Protocols To Ensure Patient Safety.
