Job Description

  1. Perform comprehensive assessments of patients prior to surgery to determine their eligibility and readiness for the procedure.
  2. Develop and implement individualized care plans for patients based on their specific surgical needs and medical history.
  3. Coordinate and communicate with physicians, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a smooth preadmission process for patients.
  4. Educate patients and their families about the surgical process, potential risks and complications, and post-operative care instructions.
  5. Monitor and manage patients' vital signs, administer medications, and provide other nursing interventions as needed.
  6. Ensure all necessary pre-surgery tests and screenings are completed and results are communicated to the appropriate healthcare providers.
  7. Document all patient care and interventions accurately and in a timely manner.
  8. Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and adhere to infection control protocols.
  9. Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to identify and resolve any issues or concerns that may arise during the preadmission process.
  10. Act as a patient advocate and provide emotional support to patients and their families during this potentially stressful time.
  11. Stay updated on current best practices and guidelines for surgical preadmission and assist in developing and implementing new policies and procedures as needed.
  12. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to ensure the highest level of patient care.
  13. Adhere to all state and federal regulations and standards of nursing practice.
  14. Demonstrate strong leadership skills and serve as a role model for other nurses and healthcare professionals.
  15. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Nursing Or Related Field: A Candidate For A Registered Nurse - Surgery Preadmission Job At Ascension Health Must Possess A Bachelor's Degree In Nursing Or A Related Field From An Accredited Institution. This Educational Background Provides The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Perform The Duties Of A Preadmission Nurse Effectively.

  • Active Rn License: To Work As A Registered Nurse At Ascension Health, An Individual Must Hold An Active Registered Nurse License In The State They Will Be Practicing. This Ensures That The Candidate Has Met The Required Educational And Competency Standards To Provide Safe And Effective Care To Patients.

  • Previous Experience In Surgical Preadmission: Ascension Health Prefers Candidates Who Have Previous Experience In Surgical Preadmission. This Experience Demonstrates An Understanding Of The Preadmission Process And The Ability To Effectively Prepare Patients For Surgery.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: A Registered Nurse - Surgery Preadmission Must Possess Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Communicate With Patients And Their Families During The Preadmission Process. This Includes Providing Education, Answering Questions, And Addressing Concerns.

  • Knowledge Of Surgical Procedures And Equipment: As A Preadmission Nurse, It Is Essential To Have A Strong Understanding Of Various Surgical Procedures And The Equipment Used During Surgeries. This Knowledge Allows The Nurse To Accurately Assess And Prepare Patients For Their Specific Surgery, Ensuring A Safe And Successful Procedure.
