
Registered Nurse - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

- Provide specialized care for newborns in critical condition in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
- Utilize knowledge and skills in neonatal care to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans for each patient.
- Monitor and document patient progress, identify any changes in condition, and communicate with physicians and other healthcare team members.
- Administer medications, treatments, and procedures as ordered by physicians.
- Educate patients and their families on neonatal care, including feeding techniques, medication administration, and home care instructions.
- Advocate for the unique needs of premature and high-risk infants and ensure that their care is delivered with compassion and sensitivity.
- Maintain a safe and clean patient environment, adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements and best practices in neonatal care and incorporate them into daily practice.
- Demonstrate professionalism and a commitment to providing the highest quality care to patients and their families.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and assist in developing and implementing new policies and procedures.
- Adhere to all hospital and regulatory standards, including HIPAA and OSHA regulations.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care in electronic medical records.
- Act as a mentor and resource for new nurses and students in the NICU.
- Collaborate with other healthcare providers and community resources to ensure continuity of care for patients upon discharge.
Bachelor's Degree In Nursing Or Related Field: A Registered Nurse In The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Nicu) At Ascension Health Must Have A Bachelor's Degree In Nursing Or A Related Field. This Degree Provides The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Care For Critically Ill Newborns In The Nicu Setting.
Current Rn License: All Applicants Must Hold A Current And Valid Rn License In The State Where They Will Be Working. This Ensures That They Have Met The Minimum Requirements For Nursing Practice And Have The Necessary Skills And Knowledge To Provide Safe And Effective Care.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (Nrp) Certification: Nrp Certification Is Required For All Rns Working In The Nicu. This Certification Ensures That Nurses Are Trained In The Specialized Skills Necessary To Resuscitate And Stabilize Newborns In Emergency Situations.
Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In An Acute Care Setting: Ascension Health Requires A Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In An Acute Care Setting For Rns Working In The Nicu. This Experience Provides The Necessary Foundation For Providing Care To Critically Ill Newborns In A Fast-Paced And High-Stress Environment.
Strong Communication And Critical Thinking Skills: Working In The Nicu Requires Excellent Communication And Critical Thinking Skills. Rns Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Families And Other Healthcare Providers, As Well As Think Critically To Assess And Address The Complex Needs Of Their Patients.
