
Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery

- Provide compassionate and dedicated care to mothers and their babies during the labor and delivery process.
- Utilize strong critical thinking skills to assess and monitor the health of both mother and baby, and respond appropriately to any changes or complications.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans for each patient.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians and monitor their effectiveness.
- Educate patients and their families on postpartum care, including breastfeeding, newborn care, and self-care for the mother.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient progress and interventions.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols to ensure a safe and effective work environment.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues to promote positive relationships and provide excellent patient care.
- Stay current with best practices and advancements in labor and delivery care through continuing education and professional development opportunities.
- Demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement and participate in quality improvement initiatives within the department.
- Serve as a role model and mentor for less experienced nurses and assist in their development and education.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all aspects of patient care.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure a seamless and coordinated care experience for patients.
- Attend and actively participate in departmental meetings, committees, and other designated activities.
- Maintain a positive and professional demeanor at all times, reflecting the mission and values of Ascension Health.
Valid Rn License: A Qualified Candidate For This Position Must Hold A Valid Rn License In The State Where They Will Be Working. This Ensures That They Have Completed The Necessary Education And Training To Provide Safe And Effective Care.
Bachelor Of Science In Nursing (Bsn) Degree: While A Bsn Is Not Always Required For An Rn Position, It Is Preferred For Those Working In Labor And Delivery. This Degree Provides A More In-Depth Understanding Of Patient Care And Prepares Nurses For Leadership Roles.
Labor And Delivery Experience: Ascension Health May Prefer Candidates Who Have Previous Experience Working In A Labor And Delivery Setting. This Experience Demonstrates A Strong Understanding Of The Unique Needs And Challenges Of This Patient Population.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (Nrp) Certification: As A Labor And Delivery Nurse, It Is Important To Have The Skills And Knowledge To Care For Newborns Who May Require Resuscitation. Nrp Certification Is Often Required For This Position.
Bls And Acls Certification: Basic Life Support (Bls) And Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Acls) Certifications Are Necessary For Any Rn Position. However, They Are Especially Important For Those Working In Labor And Delivery, As They May Need To Respond Quickly In Emergency Situations.
