- Conducting sleep studies: Perform and interpret overnight polysomnograms and multiple sleep latency tests to diagnose and evaluate sleep disorders.
- Patient care: Monitor and assess patients throughout the sleep study, ensuring their safety and comfort, and addressing any concerns or questions they may have.
- Operating equipment: Set up and calibrate polysomnography equipment, including EEG, EOG, EMG, EKG, and other monitoring devices, to obtain accurate and reliable data.
- Analyzing data: Analyze and interpret sleep study results, identifying any abnormalities or patterns that may indicate a sleep disorder.
- Collaborating with healthcare team: Work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients with sleep disorders.
- Educating patients: Educate patients on sleep hygiene, treatment options, and the importance of managing their sleep disorders for overall health and well-being.
- Maintaining records: Document and maintain accurate and detailed records of sleep studies, including patient information, test results, and treatment plans.
- Quality assurance: Follow established protocols and procedures to ensure the accuracy and quality of sleep study data and results.
- Technical support: Troubleshoot technical issues with equipment and make necessary adjustments to ensure accurate and reliable data collection.
- Continuing education: Stay current with advancements in sleep medicine and technology through continuing education and training opportunities.
- Adhering to regulations: Comply with all regulatory and safety standards, ensuring a safe and secure environment for patients and staff.
- Team collaboration: Work collaboratively with other members of the sleep medicine team, including physicians, nurses, and respiratory therapists, to provide the best possible care for patients.
- Patient advocacy: Advocate for patients and their needs, ensuring their preferences and concerns are addressed and incorporated into their treatment plans.
- Maintaining confidentiality: Respect patient privacy and maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Promoting a positive
Bachelor's Degree In A Related Field Such As Polysomnography, Respiratory Therapy, Or Neurodiagnostics.
Certification From The Board Of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (Brpt) As A Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (Rpsgt).
At Least 2 Years Of Experience In A Clinical Setting, Preferably In A Sleep Disorders Center.
Knowledge Of Various Sleep Disorders And Treatment Options, As Well As Experience With Diagnostic Equipment And Software.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills, As Well As The Ability To Work Collaboratively With A Multidisciplinary Team.
