As an Oral Surgery Assistant, you will play a vital role in assisting our surgeons and providing top-notch patient care.   1. Assist surgeons in performing oral surgeries, including preparing instruments, sterilizing equipment, and maintaining a sterile environment.
  2. Provide hands-on assistance during procedures, anticipating the needs of the surgeon and ensuring a smooth and efficient operation.
  3. Take and develop dental x-rays as needed, following proper safety protocols.
  4. Prepare patients for surgery by reviewing medical history, explaining procedures, and answering any questions or concerns.
  5. Monitor patients during and after surgery, noting any changes in vital signs and reporting any concerns to the surgeon.
  6. Educate patients on proper post-operative care and provide them with appropriate instructions and materials.
  7. Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including updating medical history and treatment plans.
  8. Assist in scheduling appointments and managing patient flow in the oral maxillofacial department.
  9. Ensure compliance with all infection control protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  10. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive and coordinated care for patients.
  11. Participate in continuing education and training to stay up-to-date on the latest techniques and advancements in oral surgery.
  12. Maintain a professional and compassionate demeanor when interacting with patients and their families.

  • Certification Or Degree In Dental Assisting: A Formal Education In Dental Assisting, Such As A Certification Or Degree Program, Is Essential For An Oral Surgery Assistant At Ascension Health. This Ensures That The Candidate Has A Strong Foundation In The Fundamentals Of Dental Assisting And Is Equipped With The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Assist In Oral Surgery Procedures.

  • Experience In Oral Surgery: Prior Experience In Oral Surgery, Either In A Clinical Or Hospital Setting, Is Highly Desirable For An Oral Surgery Assistant At Ascension Health. This Demonstrates The Candidate's Familiarity With The Procedures, Instruments, And Equipment Used In Oral Surgery, And Their Ability To Assist The Oral Surgeon Effectively.

  • Knowledge Of Sterilization And Infection Control: Infection Control Is Of Utmost Importance In Any Healthcare Setting, And Oral Surgery Is No Exception. A Qualified Oral Surgery Assistant At Ascension Health Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Sterilization Techniques And Infection Control Protocols To Ensure A Safe And Hygienic Environment For Patients And Staff.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As An Oral Surgery Assistant, One Will Be Working Closely With Both The Oral Surgeon And The Patient. Therefore, Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Crucial For Establishing A Rapport With Patients And Working Efficiently With The Surgical Team.
