  10. Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to maintain and enhance skills and knowledge in genetics and counseling.
  11. Adhere to ethical and legal standards in genetic counseling and maintain a professional and respectful demeanor at all times.
  12. Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure understanding and facilitate informed decision-making.
  13. Serve as an advocate for patients and families, ensuring they have access to necessary resources and support for their genetic health needs.
  14. Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and protocols related to genetic counseling services.
  15. Collaborate with community organizations and advocacy groups to promote awareness and education about genetic health and resources available.

Job Qualifications
  • Master's Degree In Genetic Counseling: A Minimum Of A Master's Degree In Genetic Counseling From An Accredited Program Is Required For This Position. This Ensures That The Candidate Has Received Specialized Training In Genetic Counseling Techniques And Is Well-Versed In The Latest Developments In The Field.

  • Certification By The American Board Of Genetic Counseling (Abgc): Candidates Must Be Certified By The Abgc To Be Considered For A Genetic Counselor Role At Ascension Health. This Certification Ensures That The Candidate Has Met Rigorous Standards For Competency And Professionalism In The Field Of Genetic Counseling.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Genetic Counselors Must Have Excellent Communication Skills To Effectively Convey Complex Genetic Information To Patients And Their Families. They Must Also Possess Strong Interpersonal Skills To Build Rapport And Trust With Patients And Their Families During Difficult And Emotional Situations.

  • Knowledge Of Genetic Testing And Counseling Techniques: Candidates Must Have A Thorough Understanding Of Genetic Testing Procedures And The Ability To Interpret And Explain Test Results To Patients. They Must Also Have Experience In Providing Genetic Counseling, Including Discussing Potential Risks And Treatment Options With Patients And Their Families.

  • Familiarity With Ethical And Legal Guidelines: Genetic Counselors Must Adhere To Ethical And Legal Guidelines When Providing Counseling And Making Recommendations To Patients. Candidates Must Have A Strong Understanding Of These Guidelines And Be Able To Apply Them In Their Practice.
