Job Description

Ascension Health is seeking a dedicated Child Life Specialist to join our team in the Pediatric Emergency Department. As a Child Life Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing emotional support, education, and therapeutic interventions to pediatric patients and their families. We are looking for a compassionate and empathetic individual with a strong understanding of child development and the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.   1. Provide emotional support to pediatric patients and their families during times of stress and uncertainty.
  2. Create and implement therapeutic interventions to help children cope with medical procedures and hospitalizations.
  3. Educate patients and families on medical procedures and diagnoses in a child-friendly and developmentally appropriate manner.
  4. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement appropriate treatment plans for pediatric patients.
  5. Advocate for the psychosocial needs of pediatric patients and their families within the healthcare setting.
  6. Establish and maintain a positive and supportive relationship with patients and their families.
  7. Assess and address the emotional and developmental needs of each individual child.
  8. Utilize play and expressive arts to aid in emotional expression and coping.
  9. Provide resources and support to families to help them navigate through difficult situations.
  10. Document patient interactions and progress in electronic medical records.
  11. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and provide input on patient care plans.
  12. Participate in ongoing education and training to stay updated on best practices in child life services.
  13. Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
  14. Maintain a safe and child-friendly environment in the Pediatric Emergency Department.
  15. Collaborate with community resources to provide support for patients and families after discharge.

Job Qualifications
  • Certification As A Child Life Specialist (Ccls) Through The Association Of Child Life Professionals (Aclp).

  • Bachelor's Or Master's Degree In Child Life, Child Development, Psychology, Or A Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Working As A Child Life Specialist In A Pediatric Emergency Department Or Similar Setting.

  • Knowledge Of Child Development, Coping Techniques, And Therapeutic Play Interventions.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Work Effectively With Children And Families In High-Stress Situations.
