Job Description

Welcome to the Architect of the Capitol, where our team is committed to preserving and maintaining the historic and iconic buildings of Washington, D.C. We are currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Arborist to join our team and assist in the care and management of the vast array of trees and landscapes under our stewardship. As an Arborist, you will have the unique opportunity to work within some of the most beautiful and significant landscapes in the nation's capital. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about trees and has extensive experience in the field of arboriculture.   1. Conduct regular inspections of trees and landscapes to identify any potential hazards, diseases, or damage.
  2. Create and implement maintenance and care plans for trees and landscapes, taking into account the historical and cultural significance of the area.
  3. Perform pruning, trimming, and other tree care techniques to maintain the health and aesthetics of the trees.
  4. Utilize proper techniques and equipment to safely remove trees when necessary.
  5. Collaborate with other members of the team to develop and implement strategies for sustainable landscape management.
  6. Maintain accurate records of tree care activities, including inventory, maintenance schedules, and any issues or concerns.
  7. Keep up-to-date with industry developments and best practices in arboriculture, and make recommendations for improvements to current processes and procedures.
  8. Communicate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure the safety and preservation of trees and landscapes during construction or other projects.
  9. Train and supervise other team members, including seasonal staff and interns, in proper tree care and maintenance techniques.
  10. Monitor and manage budget and resources for tree care and maintenance, including equipment, supplies, and labor.
  11. Respond to emergencies and provide support during extreme weather events, such as storms or hurricanes.
  12. Maintain a positive and professional attitude while representing the Architect of the Capitol and promoting the importance of preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of Washington, D.C.

Job Qualifications
  • Relevant Education And Certification: A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Arboriculture, Forestry, Or A Related Field Is Required For An Arborist Position At Architect Of The Capitol. Additionally, Candidates Should Hold Certification From The International Society Of Arboriculture (Isa) As A Certified Arborist Or Certified Tree Worker.

  • Extensive Knowledge Of Tree Care: The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Deep Understanding Of Tree Biology, Tree Identification, Soil Science, And Proper Pruning Techniques. They Should Also Have Experience In Diagnosing And Treating Tree Diseases And Pests.

  • Experience With Tree Maintenance Equipment: The Arborist Should Have Hands-On Experience With Various Tree Care Equipment Such As Chainsaws, Pruners, And Stump Grinders. They Should Also Have Knowledge Of Safe Operation And Maintenance Of These Tools.

  • Strong Communication And Teamwork Skills: The Arborist Will Be Working Closely With Other Members Of The Architect Of The Capitol Team, As Well As Interacting With Clients And The Public. Therefore, Excellent Communication And Teamwork Skills Are Essential For This Position.

  • Physical Fitness And Safety Awareness: The Job Of An Arborist Involves Physical Labor Such As Climbing Trees, Lifting Heavy Branches, And Operating Equipment. The Candidate Should Be Physically Fit And Have A Strong Understanding Of Safety Protocols To Prevent Accidents And Injuries.
