Job Description

Welcome to the Architect of the Capitol, where we strive to preserve and enhance the iconic buildings and grounds of our nation's capital. We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Arborist to join our team and help us maintain the health and beauty of our diverse tree population. As an Arborist, you will have the unique opportunity to work on some of the most prestigious and historically significant landscapes in the country.   • Conduct regular inspections and assessments of trees on Capitol grounds to identify potential hazards, diseases, or other issues
  • Develop and implement tree care plans and strategies to maintain the health and vitality of the trees
  • Perform pruning, trimming, and other maintenance tasks to ensure proper growth and structure of trees
  • Identify and diagnose tree diseases and pests, and administer appropriate treatments
  • Monitor and maintain tree inventory and records, including tree species, location, and condition
  • Collaborate with other members of the team to implement sustainable and environmentally-friendly practices in tree care
  • Operate and maintain equipment and tools necessary for tree care, such as chainsaws, pruning shears, and climbing gear
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure personal and public safety while working on trees
  • Communicate with stakeholders and visitors about tree care and maintenance activities, as well as the importance of preserving the Capitol's tree population
  • Stay updated on advancements in arboriculture and incorporate new techniques and methods into tree care practices.

Job Qualifications
  • Certified Arborist: The Ideal Candidate For This Position Should Hold A Current Certification As An Arborist From A Recognized Organization Such As The International Society Of Arboriculture (Isa) Or The Tree Care Industry Association (Tcia).

  • Extensive Knowledge Of Tree Care: The Arborist Should Have A Deep Understanding Of Tree Biology, Pruning Techniques, Identification Of Diseases And Pests, And Proper Planting And Maintenance Practices.

  • Experience With Urban Trees: The Architect Of The Capitol Has A Large And Diverse Collection Of Trees Throughout The Capitol Grounds. The Arborist Should Have Experience Working With Urban Trees And Be Able To Assess And Address The Unique Challenges They Face.

  • Strong Safety Record: The Arborist Must Have A Strong Commitment To Safety And Be Able To Consistently Follow Proper Safety Protocols And Procedures In All Aspects Of The Job. A History Of Safe Tree Care Practices Is Essential.

  • Excellent Communication Skills: The Arborist Will Work Closely With Other Members Of The Architect Of The Capitol Team, As Well As Communicate With Members Of Congress, Staff, And The General Public About Tree Care And Maintenance. Strong Communication Skills, Both Written And Oral, Are Essential For This Position.
