- Operate passenger trains in a safe and efficient manner, following all Amtrak rules and regulations.
- Attend and successfully complete all required training programs and certifications.
- Monitor train systems and equipment to ensure proper functioning and report any issues or malfunctions.
- Provide exceptional customer service to passengers, including assisting with luggage, answering questions, and addressing any concerns.
- Adhere to strict schedules and timetables, ensuring on-time arrival and departure.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of train movements, delays, and incidents.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, other crew members, and station personnel to ensure smooth operation of trains.
- Practice and promote safety protocols at all times, including emergency procedures and protocols.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trains and equipment.
- Continuously learn and stay updated on Amtrak policies, procedures, and technology.

High School Diploma Or Equivalent - A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Ged Is Required For The Position Of Passenger Engineer Trainee At Amtrak. This Ensures That Candidates Have A Basic Level Of Education And Can Understand And Follow Instructions.
Train Operations Experience - Candidates Should Have At Least 2 Years Of Experience In Train Operations, Either As A Conductor Or Locomotive Engineer. This Experience Helps Demonstrate A Basic Understanding Of Train Operations And Regulations, Which Is Crucial For The Role Of Passenger Engineer Trainee.
Mechanical Aptitude - Amtrak Requires Candidates To Have A Strong Mechanical Aptitude To Be Considered For The Role Of Passenger Engineer Trainee. This Includes The Ability To Troubleshoot And Fix Minor Mechanical Issues That May Occur During Train Operations.
