- Collaborate with other team members, including engineers and conductors, to coordinate repairs and maintenance schedules.
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of train systems and equipment to effectively diagnose and repair issues.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while working on trains and in train yards.
- Maintain accurate records of all repairs and maintenance performed on trains.
- Communicate effectively with passengers and respond to any questions or concerns regarding train maintenance.
- Stay up-to-date on industry developments and advancements to continuously improve train maintenance processes.
- Assist in training and mentoring new team members to ensure they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
High School Diploma Or Equivalent: A Carman Journeyman At Amtrak Must Have A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Equivalent Education.
Completion Of An Apprenticeship Program: Candidates Must Have Completed A Recognized Apprenticeship Program In Railroad Car Maintenance That Includes Hands-On Training And Classroom Instruction.
Relevant Work Experience: Amtrak Requires A Minimum Of 3-5 Years Of Experience In The Railroad Industry, Preferably In Car Maintenance Or Repair.
Knowledge Of Mechanical Systems: A Successful Carman Journeyman Must Have A Strong Understanding Of Mechanical Systems, Including Brakes, Air Conditioning, And Heating Systems, To Diagnose And Repair Issues Efficiently.
Safety Training And Certifications: Amtrak Places A High Priority On Safety, And Candidates For The Carman Journeyman Position Must Have Completed Relevant Safety Training And Hold Current Certifications, Such As Osha And Hazmat.
