Job Description

At American International Group, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Underwriter for our Marine International Cargo division. In this role, you will play a critical role in evaluating and determining the risks associated with insuring marine cargo shipments on an international scale. Our ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and analytical individual with a strong understanding of the marine insurance industry.   1. Evaluate and assess the risks associated with marine cargo shipments on an international scale.
  2. Utilize analytical skills to determine appropriate insurance coverage and pricing for marine cargo policies.
  3. Conduct thorough research and analysis of potential clients and their cargo to determine insurability.
  4. Collaborate with other underwriters and departments to ensure accurate and comprehensive risk evaluation.
  5. Communicate with brokers and clients to gather necessary information and provide guidance on insurance options.
  6. Stay up-to-date on industry trends and changes in regulations that may affect marine insurance policies.
  7. Maintain accurate and organized records of underwriting decisions and client information.
  8. Continuously monitor and review existing policies to identify potential risks and recommend necessary adjustments.
  9. Work efficiently and effectively to meet deadlines and maintain a high level of productivity.
  10. Provide exceptional customer service to clients, brokers, and other stakeholders.
  11. Identify opportunities for business growth and development within the marine international cargo division.
  12. Adhere to company underwriting guidelines and procedures.
  13. Contribute to the overall success and profitability of the marine international cargo division.

Job Qualifications
  • In-Depth Knowledge Of International Marine Cargo Insurance Policies And Procedures: A Successful Underwriter In This Role Should Possess A Thorough Understanding Of The Intricacies Of International Marine Cargo Insurance, Including Coverages, Exclusions, And Risk Assessment.

  • Strong Analytical And Decision-Making Skills: Underwriters Must Be Able To Analyze Complex Information And Make Accurate Decisions Regarding Risk Acceptance, Pricing, And Terms And Conditions.

  • Familiarity With Industry Regulations And Compliance Standards: Underwriters Must Have A Strong Understanding Of Industry Regulations, Compliance Standards, And Best Practices To Ensure That Policies Are Underwritten In Accordance With Applicable Laws And Guidelines.

  • Excellent Communication And Negotiation Skills: As An Underwriter, The Ability To Effectively Communicate With Clients, Brokers, And Other Stakeholders Is Essential. Strong Negotiation Skills Are Also Important In Securing Favorable Terms And Conditions For The Company.

  • Prior Experience In Marine Insurance Underwriting: A Minimum Of 3-5 Years Of Experience In Marine Insurance Underwriting Is Typically Required For This Role. Previous Experience In Underwriting International Marine Cargo Policies Is Highly Preferred.
