Job Description

Welcome to the ATF, the premier law enforcement organization responsible for enforcing federal laws and regulations related to alcohol, tobacco, firearms, and explosives. We are currently seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to join our team as a Personnel Security Specialist. In this role, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the safety and security of our agency and its personnel. As a Personnel Security Specialist, you will be responsible for conducting background investigations, evaluating security risks, and implementing security measures to protect our employees and facilities. To excel in this position, you must have a strong understanding of security principles and procedures, as well as excellent communication and analytical skills.   1. Conduct background investigations on potential employees and contractors to ensure they meet the necessary security requirements for employment with the ATF.
  2. Evaluate security risks and make recommendations for implementing appropriate security measures to protect ATF employees, facilities, and sensitive information.
  3. Develop and implement security policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal laws and regulations.
  4. Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and organizations to share information and coordinate security efforts.
  5. Conduct security briefings and training for ATF personnel to educate them on security protocols and procedures.
  6. Monitor and assess security threats and vulnerabilities, and take proactive measures to mitigate potential risks.
  7. Maintain accurate and up-to-date security records and files.
  8. Communicate with ATF employees and contractors to gather and verify information for security clearance purposes.
  9. Conduct interviews and reference checks as part of the background investigation process.
  10. Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and adhere to strict security protocols.
  11. Provide guidance and support to other ATF staff on security-related matters.
  12. Stay current on industry trends and advancements in security technology to make recommendations for improvements within the agency.
  13. Collaborate with other security personnel and participate in security audits and assessments.
  14. Conduct investigations into security incidents or violations and make recommendations for corrective action.
  15. Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and policies related to personnel security.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Criminal Justice, Security Management, Or A Related Field.

  • Prior Experience In Conducting Background Investigations, Preferably In A Law Enforcement Or Government Agency.

  • Knowledge Of Federal Laws, Regulations, And Policies Related To Personnel Security And Background Investigations.

  • Strong Analytical And Problem-Solving Skills, With The Ability To Make Sound Judgments And Decisions.

  • Excellent Communication Skills, Both Written And Oral, With The Ability To Interact With Individuals At All Levels Of An Organization.
