Job Description

  1. Provide compassionate and skilled care to mothers and newborns during labor and delivery.
  2. Demonstrate a strong understanding of labor and delivery processes and procedures.
  3. Monitor the health and well-being of both mother and baby before, during, and after delivery.
  4. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
  5. Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare team members to create and implement individualized care plans for patients.
  6. Educate and support patients and their families about the labor and delivery process and postpartum care.
  7. Utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess and address any complications or emergencies that may arise during labor and delivery.
  8. Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and documentation.
  9. Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  10. Provide emotional support and comfort to patients and their families during the labor and delivery experience.
  11. Continuously monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and make necessary adjustments to ensure high-quality care.
  12. Act as an advocate for patients and their families, ensuring their needs and concerns are addressed.
  13. Stay updated on current research, trends, and best practices in labor and delivery nursing.
  14. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to improve processes and enhance the overall patient experience.
  15. Maintain a positive and professional attitude, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for patients, families, and co-workers.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Nursing: Most Employers, Including Adventhealth, Require A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Nursing (Bsn) For A Registered Nurse, Labor And Delivery Position. This Degree Provides A Comprehensive Understanding Of Nursing Practices And Prepares Individuals For Specialized Roles In The Field Of Labor And Delivery.

  • Active Registered Nurse License: All Registered Nurses Must Hold An Active License In Their State Of Practice. This Ensures That The Nurse Has Met The Necessary Requirements And Is Qualified To Provide Safe And Competent Care To Patients.

  • Labor And Delivery Experience: Adventhealth Typically Requires A Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In A Labor And Delivery Setting For Their Registered Nurse Positions. This Experience Allows Nurses To Develop Specialized Skills And Knowledge In Caring For Mothers And Newborns During The Labor And Delivery Process.

  • Bls And Nrp Certifications: Basic Life Support (Bls) And Neonatal Resuscitation Program (Nrp) Certifications Are Often Required For Labor And Delivery Nurses. These Certifications Demonstrate The Nurse's Ability To Respond To Emergency Situations And Provide Life-Saving Interventions For Both Mother And Baby.

  • Excellent Communication And Critical Thinking Skills: As A Labor And Delivery Nurse, Effective Communication Is Essential In Providing Quality Care To Both The Mother And Baby. Nurses Must Also Possess Strong Critical Thinking Skills To Assess And Anticipate Potential Complications During Labor And Delivery And Make Quick And Accurate Decisions To Ensure The Safety Of Both Patients.
