- Provide support to the surgical team by assisting with preparing and maintaining the operating room before, during, and after procedures.
- Help patients feel comfortable and at ease by providing them with compassionate care and addressing any concerns they may have.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of patients by following established infection control and safety protocols.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to anticipate needs and ensure the availability of necessary equipment and supplies.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment to promote efficiency and prevent potential hazards.
- Communicate effectively with team members and patients to relay important information and updates.
- Assist with the transfer and positioning of patients onto operating tables and assist with the application of surgical equipment and dressings.
- Monitor and record patient vital signs and report any changes or concerns to the surgical team.
- Provide emotional support to patients and their families before and after procedures.
- Attend training and educational sessions to stay updated on best practices and new techniques in the perioperative field.
- Comply with all hospital policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the surgical team or supervisor.
Relevant Education And Training: A Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Ged Is Required For A Perioperative Assistant Position At Adventhealth. Additionally, Candidates Should Have Completed A Surgical Technology Program Or Have Equivalent Training And Experience In The Operating Room Setting.
Knowledge Of Surgical Procedures: Candidates Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Surgical Procedures And Techniques, Including Aseptic Techniques, Instrument Handling, And Surgical Equipment Maintenance. They Should Also Have Knowledge Of Surgical Instruments And Their Proper Use.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: A Perioperative Assistant Must Be Able To Communicate Effectively With Surgeons, Nurses, And Other Healthcare Team Members. They Should Also Have Strong Interpersonal Skills To Provide Emotional Support To Patients And Their Families During The Pre- And Post-Operative Process.
Attention To Detail And Problem-Solving Abilities: The Role Of A Perioperative Assistant Requires A High Level Of Attention To Detail And The Ability To Anticipate The Needs Of The Surgical Team. They Should Also Be Able To Quickly Identify And Troubleshoot Any Issues That May Arise During A Procedure.
Physical Stamina And Dexterity: This Job Can Be Physically Demanding, Requiring The Ability To Stand For Long Periods, Lift And Move Heavy Objects, And Have Good Hand-Eye Coordination. Candidates Should Also Be Comfortable Working In A Fast-Paced, High-Stress Environment.
