- Develop and implement infection control policies and procedures in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify potential infection risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to educate staff on infection prevention measures and provide ongoing training and support.
- Monitor and analyze infection data and trends to identify areas for improvement and make recommendations for changes to protocols or procedures.
- Conduct thorough investigations of any potential outbreaks or incidents of infection and implement appropriate control measures.
- Stay up-to-date on current infection prevention practices and emerging infectious diseases to ensure the organization is prepared to respond effectively.
- Work closely with the environmental services team to ensure proper sanitation and disinfection practices are being followed.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with local health departments and other external agencies to stay informed of any potential public health concerns.
- Serve as a resource and point of contact for staff, patients, and visitors with questions or concerns about infection control.
- Participate in the development and implementation of infection prevention quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of infection control activities and report any findings or concerns to appropriate parties.
- Collaborate with the employee health team to ensure appropriate immunizations and screenings are offered to staff.
- Conduct regular inspections of patient care areas to ensure proper infection control practices are being followed.
- Serve as a leader and advocate for infection control practices within the organization, promoting a culture of safety and accountability.
- Participate in multidisciplinary committees and teams focused on infection control and prevention.
Bachelor's Degree In Nursing Or Related Healthcare Field: A Strong Educational Foundation In Healthcare Is Essential For An Infection Preventionist, As It Provides The Necessary Knowledge And Skills To Understand And Prevent The Spread Of Infections.
Certified In Infection Control (Cic) Or Willing To Obtain Certification: Cic Certification Is Considered The Gold Standard For Infection Control Professionals And Demonstrates A Deep Understanding Of Infection Prevention Practices And Protocols.
Experience In Infection Control Or Related Field: Previous Experience In Infection Control, Epidemiology, Or Other Healthcare Roles Involving Infection Prevention Is Highly Desirable. This Shows A Strong Understanding Of Infection Prevention Strategies And Protocols.
Strong Communication And Leadership Skills: An Infection Preventionist Must Be Able To Effectively Communicate With Healthcare Staff, Patients, And Families To Educate Them On Infection Prevention Measures. Additionally, Strong Leadership Skills Are Essential In Implementing And Enforcing Infection Control Protocols.
