  1. Conduct genetic counseling sessions with patients and their families to provide information, support, and guidance on genetic conditions and testing options.
  2. Keep up-to-date with the latest research and advancements in genetic testing and counseling techniques to provide the highest quality of care to patients.
  3. Work collaboratively with other members of the Genetic Counseling team and medical professionals to develop comprehensive treatment plans for patients.
  4. Communicate complex genetic information in a clear and compassionate manner to patients and their families, taking into consideration their unique backgrounds and needs.
  5. Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient interactions, including counseling sessions, test results, and treatment plans.
  6. Attend and participate in relevant conferences, workshops, and seminars to enhance knowledge and skills in the field of genetic counseling.
  7. Adhere to ethical and legal standards in providing genetic counseling services, including protecting patient confidentiality.
  8. Collaborate with insurance companies and other relevant parties to ensure appropriate coverage for genetic testing and counseling services.
  9. Conduct research and contribute to publications and presentations in the field of genetic counseling.
  10. Provide support and education to healthcare professionals and students on the role of genetic counseling in patient care.
  11. Demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusivity in working with patients and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  12. Adhere to all policies and procedures of Yale University and maintain a professional and positive attitude while representing the university.

Job Qualifications
  • Master's Degree In Genetic Counseling: A Minimum Requirement For This Position Is A Master's Degree In Genetic Counseling From An Accredited Program. This Demonstrates The Necessary Knowledge And Training In The Field Of Genetics And Counseling.

  • Certification By The American Board Of Genetic Counseling (Abgc): Candidates Should Hold A Current Certification From The Abgc, Which Is Recognized As The Standard For Professional Competence In The Field Of Genetic Counseling.

  • Experience In Clinical Genetics: The Ideal Candidate Should Have At Least 2-3 Years Of Experience Working In A Clinical Genetics Setting. This Will Ensure They Have The Necessary Skills And Knowledge To Provide Genetic Counseling To Patients.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills: Genetic Counselors Interact With Patients And Their Families On A Daily Basis, So Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential. This Includes The Ability To Convey Complex Medical Information In A Clear And Compassionate Manner.

  • Knowledge Of Current Research And Technology: Yale University Is A Leader In Genetic Research And Uses Cutting-Edge Technology In Their Genetic Counseling Services. The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Strong Understanding Of Current Research And Technology In The Field And Be Able To Apply It In Their Practice.
