- Acquire and maintain the law library's collection of legal materials, including books, journals, databases, and other resources.
- Process new acquisitions, including ordering, receiving, and cataloging materials.
- Maintain accurate records of acquisitions and expenses.
- Monitor budget and expenses related to acquisitions.
- Collaborate with colleagues to identify and prioritize materials for acquisition.
- Conduct research to identify new and relevant legal materials to add to the collection.
- Evaluate and assess potential acquisitions to ensure they meet the library's collection criteria.
- Communicate with vendors and publishers to negotiate prices and manage orders.
- Work closely with other library staff to ensure efficient and accurate processing of materials.
- Stay up-to-date on current trends and developments in the legal field to inform collection decisions.
- Assist in the organization and maintenance of the physical and digital collections.
- Provide reference and research assistance to library patrons when needed.
- Train and supervise student assistants and other staff members on acquisitions processes.
- Attend relevant conferences and workshops to stay informed about best practices in library acquisitions.
- Uphold the values and mission of Yale University and the law library in all interactions and tasks.
Bachelor's Degree In Library Science, Information Science, Or A Related Field.
Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Working In A Law Library Or Legal Research Environment.
Strong Knowledge Of Legal Research Tools And Databases, Such As Lexisnexis And Westlaw.
Excellent Organizational And Time-Management Skills, With The Ability To Handle Multiple Projects Simultaneously.
Experience With Library Acquisitions And Cataloging Processes, Including Knowledge Of Marc Records And Library Classification Systems.
