
HR Generalist
Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including by not limited to: compensation, benefits & leave, disciplinary matters, disputes & investigations, performance & talent management, productivity, recognition & morale, occupational health & safety, and training & development. Coaches and counsels managers and employees on human resource policies and procedures, as well as employment laws and government regulations. May be requested to prepare written materials for employees. Coordinates zoo recruiting and hiring efforts by reviewing job classifications, writing job descriptions, posting jobs, screening applications, conducting phone interviews and performing background checks of job applicants. Applies ADA, FLSA, FMLA, OSHA, EEO, COBRA, and other employment regulations as appropriate. Maintains knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring compliance. Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and recommends best practices. Reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance. Responds promptly to human resource issues such as employee inquiries, complaints, harassment allegations, discrimination concerns, or union grievances. Assists payroll administration responsibilities as directed. Maintains a working relationship with union representatives and adheres to terms of collective bargaining agreement by monitoring day-to-day implementation of policies concerning wages, hours and working conditions.
3+ more years’ experience with employee and labor relations
Knowledge of federal and state employment laws
Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems
Ability to work independently and with a team.
