Job Description

As a Phlebotomist, you will play a crucial role in our healthcare system by collecting and preparing blood samples for testing and analysis.   1. Perform venipunctures and capillary punctures to collect blood samples from patients in a safe and efficient manner.
  2. Properly label and prepare blood samples for testing and analysis, following established protocols and procedures.
  3. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper disposal of biohazardous materials.
  4. Interact with patients in a professional and compassionate manner, ensuring their comfort and addressing any concerns or questions.
  5. Accurately input patient and sample information into computer systems.
  6. Follow all safety protocols and infection control measures to ensure the well-being of patients and staff.
  7. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure timely and accurate sample collection and processing.
  8. Monitor inventory of supplies and notify appropriate personnel when supplies need to be ordered.
  9. Remain updated on industry developments and advancements in phlebotomy techniques.
  10. Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives and adhere to all hospital policies and procedures.
  11. Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA regulations.
  12. Demonstrate a commitment to providing exceptional care and building strong connections with patients.
  13. Attend trainings and meetings as required.
  14. Other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.

Job Qualifications
  • Completion Of An Accredited Phlebotomy Training Program: Candidates For A Phlebotomist Position At Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Should Have Completed A Formal Training Program From An Accredited Institution. This Ensures That The Candidate Has A Solid Understanding Of Phlebotomy Techniques And Protocols.

  • Current Certification As A Phlebotomy Technician: Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Requires That All Phlebotomists Hold A Current Certification As A Phlebotomy Technician From A Recognized Organization, Such As The American Society For Clinical Pathology (Ascp) Or The National Healthcareer Association (Nha).

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: As A Phlebotomist, It Is Important To Have Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Interact With Patients, Healthcare Professionals, And Laboratory Staff. This Includes The Ability To Explain Procedures To Patients, Address Their Concerns, And Work Collaboratively With Other Team Members.

  • Attention To Detail And Ability To Maintain Accurate Records: The Role Of A Phlebotomist Requires A High Level Of Attention To Detail And The Ability To Maintain Accurate Records.
