Job Description

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Patient Financial Counselor to join our growing team. As a Hybrid Patient Financial Counselor, you will play a pivotal role in assisting patients with understanding their financial obligations and navigating the complex healthcare insurance system. This position requires a unique combination of customer service skills, financial knowledge, and healthcare expertise.   1. Educate patients on their financial obligations and assist them in understanding their insurance coverage and benefits.
  2. Work closely with patients and their families to develop payment plans and explore financial assistance options.
  3. Collaborate with insurance companies and other healthcare entities to ensure accurate and timely processing of claims.
  4. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of healthcare insurance policies and regulations to effectively assist patients.
  5. Provide exceptional customer service to patients by responding to inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  6. Document and maintain accurate records of patient financial information and interactions.
  7. Coordinate with other departments within the hospital to ensure seamless and efficient patient care.
  8. Advocate for patients and act as a liaison between them and insurance companies to resolve any billing or coverage issues.
  9. Continuously evaluate and improve processes to enhance the patient financial experience.
  10. Adhere to all privacy and confidentiality regulations when handling sensitive financial and medical information.
  11. Attend training and educational sessions to stay current on healthcare billing and insurance changes and updates.
  12. Collaborate with the billing and finance team to identify and resolve any discrepancies or issues with patient accounts.
  13. Demonstrate compassion, empathy, and sensitivity when working with patients who may be experiencing financial difficulties.
  14. Support the hospital's mission and values by upholding a high level of integrity and professionalism in all interactions.
  15. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Healthcare Administration, Finance, Or A Related Field.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Experience In A Healthcare Financial Counseling Or Billing Role.

  • Knowledge Of Insurance Billing And Reimbursement Processes.

  • Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills To Effectively Communicate Complex Financial Information To Patients.

  • Familiarity With Electronic Medical Record Systems And Proficiency In Microsoft Office Suite.
