- Operate heavy equipment, such as bulldozers, excavators, and loaders, to move and compact waste materials at the landfill site.
- Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all equipment, following all safety protocols and procedures.
- Conduct routine maintenance and inspections on equipment to ensure proper functioning and report any issues to management.
- Monitor and maintain proper waste levels at the landfill to ensure efficient use of space.
- Collaborate with landfill team members to coordinate and prioritize tasks to meet operational needs.
- Respond to any emergencies or incidents that may occur on the job, following all safety and emergency procedures.
- Follow all environmental regulations and guidelines to ensure proper disposal and handling of waste materials.
- Keep accurate records of equipment operation, maintenance, and any incidents or accidents that occur.
- Communicate effectively with team members and management to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow.
- Continuously strive to improve processes and procedures to increase efficiency and safety at the landfill.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including equipment and surrounding areas.
- Attend training and safety meetings as required by management.
- Represent Waste Management in a professional and positive manner in all interactions with customers and the community.

High School Diploma Or Ged: A Basic Education Is Typically Required For A Heavy Equipment Operator Landfill Job. This Ensures That The Candidate Has The Necessary Reading, Writing, And Math Skills To Understand Safety Protocols, Equipment Manuals, And Perform Basic Calculations.
Valid Commercial Driver's License (Cdl): In Addition To Operating Heavy Equipment, A Landfill Equipment Operator May Also Be Required To Transport Materials To And From The Landfill. A Cdl Is Necessary To Operate Large Trucks And Other Commercial Vehicles.
Heavy Equipment Operation Experience: Previous Experience Operating Heavy Equipment Such As Bulldozers, Excavators, And Compactors Is Highly Desired For This Role. This Experience Demonstrates That The Candidate Has The Necessary Skills To Operate The Equipment Safely And Efficiently.
Knowledge Of Landfill Operations: A Heavy Equipment Operator Landfill Must Have A Basic Understanding Of Landfill Operations, Including Waste Disposal Regulations, Safety Protocols, And Environmental Concerns. This Knowledge Helps The Operator Make Informed Decisions And Maintain Compliance With Regulations.
Physical Fitness And Stamina: Landfill Work Can Be Physically Demanding, Requiring The Operator To Work In All Types Of Weather And Terrain Conditions. A Candidate For This Role Should Be Physically Fit, Have Good Hand-Eye Coordination, And Be Able To Work Long Hours If Necessary.
