- Identify and acquire impactful scholarly titles that align with the university's publishing goals and standards.
- Collaborate with world-renowned scholars to develop and shape publishing projects.
- Conduct market research and stay updated on current trends and developments in the academic publishing industry.
- Negotiate contracts and agreements with authors and agents.
- Edit and review manuscripts to ensure high quality and accuracy.
- Work closely with the production team to ensure timely and efficient publication of acquired titles.
- Develop and maintain relationships with authors, agents, and other stakeholders in the publishing industry.
- Stay updated on copyright and licensing issues and ensure all acquired titles are compliant with legal requirements.
- Manage budget and resource allocation for acquisitions.
- Represent the university at conferences, book fairs, and other industry events.
- Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to promote and distribute acquired titles.
- Mentor and guide junior team members.
- Continuously assess and improve the university's publishing program.
- Adhere to ethical publishing practices and uphold the university's values and standards.
- Maintain accurate records and reports of all acquisitions and related activities.
Master's Degree In A Relevant Field Such As English, Journalism, Or Communications.
Minimum Of 3-5 Years Of Experience In Academic Publishing, With A Focus On Acquisitions.
Strong Understanding Of The Academic Publishing Industry, Including Market Trends And Emerging Technologies.
Excellent Communication And Negotiation Skills, With The Ability To Build Relationships With Authors, Editors, And Other Stakeholders.
Familiarity With The Academic Community At Vanderbilt University And A Demonstrated Commitment To Diversity And Inclusion In Publishing.
