Job Description

The Discovery Officer - Assistant Director of Development at Vanderbilt University is an essential part of our fundraising team, charged with cultivating relationships with individuals and organizations to build the University’s donor base. This is a highly visible role and the ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a deep commitment to the University’s mission.The Discovery Officer - Assistant Director of Development will have a passion for discovering and developing new relationships with potential donors and will excel in managing a portfolio of mid-level donors. The ideal candidate will be an organized, proactive, and creative thinker who values collaboration and will thrive in a fast-paced environment.Qualifications:• Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience in fundraising, development, or related field• Demonstrated success in major gift fundraising• Excellent written and verbal communication skills• Demonstrated ability to cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with individual donors• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team• Knowledge of development best practices, regulations, and procedures• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously• Ability to travel as needed
