- Serve as a role model and mentor to a diverse group of students living in university housing during the summer session.
- Promote a welcoming and inclusive community by fostering a sense of belonging and respect among residents.
- Enforce university policies and procedures, while also educating residents on their responsibilities and rights as members of the community.
- Respond to and address any conflicts or concerns among residents in a timely and professional manner.
- Collaborate with other summer staff members to plan and implement community-building and educational programs for residents.
- Conduct regular rounds and room checks to ensure the safety and security of residents.
- Serve as a resource for residents, providing information and referrals to university resources and services.
- Maintain accurate records and complete administrative tasks, such as incident reports and room inspections.
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and other departmental events.
- Serve on a rotating on-call duty schedule to address any emergencies or issues that may arise outside of regular business hours.
- Uphold and promote the university's values and mission, while also adhering to the code of conduct for university employees.
- Continuously reflect on personal and professional growth and actively seek feedback to improve job performance.
- Adhere to all university and departmental policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Act as a liaison between residents and the university administration, communicating any concerns or suggestions for improvement.
Previous Experience In A Residential Setting: The Ideal Candidate For This Position Should Have Previous Experience Working In A Residential Setting, Such As A Dorm Or Housing Complex. This Experience Will Demonstrate The Candidate's Ability To Handle Various Situations That May Arise In A Residential Environment.
Excellent Communication Skills: As A Resident Assistant, It Is Important To Have Strong Communication Skills In Order To Effectively Communicate With Residents, Fellow Staff Members, And Supervisors. This Includes Being Able To Listen Actively, Provide Guidance And Support, And Communicate Important Information To Residents.
Ability To Work Independently: As A Summer Resident Assistant, The Candidate Will Be Responsible For Managing Their Time And Completing Tasks Independently. This Requires A High Level Of Self-Motivation, Organization, And The Ability To Work Without Direct Supervision.
Knowledge Of University Policies And Procedures: The Candidate Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of University Policies And Procedures, Particularly Those Related To Residence Life. This Includes Understanding Emergency Protocols, Room And Board Policies, And Conduct Codes.
Strong Leadership Skills: The Role Of A Resident Assistant Requires Strong Leadership Skills, Including The Ability To Lead And Facilitate Group Discussions, Resolve Conflicts, And Make Difficult Decisions. The Candidate Should Have Experience In A Leadership Role And Be Able To Demonstrate Their Leadership Abilities.
