Job Description

The University of Rochester is seeking a dedicated Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our dynamic team of providers in our Inpatient Colorectal Surgery department. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with our world-renowned surgeons and interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.   1. Provide comprehensive and compassionate care to patients undergoing colorectal surgery.
  2. Collaborate with a team of world-renowned surgeons and other interdisciplinary healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients.
  3. Conduct thorough patient assessments and develop evidence-based care plans to promote optimal surgical outcomes.
  4. Monitor and manage patients' post-operative recovery, including administering medications, wound care, and monitoring for potential complications.
  5. Educate patients and their families on surgical procedures, post-operative care, and potential risks and complications.
  6. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care and progress in electronic medical records.
  7. Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring that all care is delivered in a safe, dignified, and respectful manner.
  8. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to coordinate and facilitate the transition of care from inpatient to outpatient settings.
  9. Participate in continuous education and training to stay current with best practices and advancements in the field of colorectal surgery.
  10. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and participate in research projects to advance the field of colorectal surgery.
  11. Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, as well as legal and ethical standards, to ensure the highest level of patient care and safety.
  12. Act as a professional role model and mentor for other healthcare team members, including nurses and support staff.
  13. Maintain a positive and professional attitude, and promote a culture of teamwork and collaboration within the department.
  14. Contribute to the overall mission of the University of Rochester to improve the lives of individuals with colorectal conditions and make a meaningful impact in the field of surgery.

Job Qualifications
  • Advanced Practice Licensure: The Candidate Must Hold A Valid And Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (Aprn) Or Physician Assistant (Pa) License In The State Of New York.

  • Specialized Education: Applicants Should Have A Master Of Science In Nursing (Msn) Or A Master Of Science In Physician Assistant Studies (Mspas) From An Accredited Program, With A Focus On Colorectal Surgery.

  • Clinical Experience: A Minimum Of 2-3 Years Of Experience In Colorectal Surgery, Preferably In An Inpatient Setting, Is Required For This Position.

  • Certification: Candidates Must Hold A National Certification As A Nurse Practitioner (Np) Or Physician Assistant (Pa) In The Specialty Of Colorectal Surgery.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential For This Role, As The Candidate Will Be Working Closely With Patients, Families, And Other Healthcare Professionals In A Collaborative Environment.
