  1. Provide emotional and psychosocial support to children and families during their hospital stay.
  2. Utilize knowledge of child development to create age-appropriate activities and interventions for patients.
  3. Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and their families.
  4. Collaborate with medical staff to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
  5. Advocate for the needs and rights of pediatric patients.
  6. Educate patients and families on medical procedures and treatments in a child-friendly and understandable manner.
  7. Assess and address the emotional and developmental needs of patients to promote coping and adjustment.
  8. Plan and facilitate group activities and events for patients to promote socialization and normalcy.
  9. Communicate with parents and caregivers to provide support and resources.
  10. Document patient interactions and progress in an accurate and timely manner.
  11. Stay up-to-date on best practices and research in the field of child life.
  12. Collaborate with other child life specialists and healthcare professionals to improve patient care and outcomes.
  13. Participate in hospital committees and initiatives related to child life services.
  14. Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for patients and their families.
  15. Uphold the mission, values, and policies of the University of Rochester.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Or Master's Degree In Child Life, Child Development, Psychology, Or Related Field.

  • Child Life Certification Through The Association Of Child Life Professionals.

  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Working As A Child Life Specialist In A Healthcare Setting.

  • Ability To Collaborate With Interdisciplinary Teams And Communicate Effectively With Children And Families.

  • Familiarity With Developmentally Appropriate Interventions And Techniques For Promoting Positive Coping And Reducing Stress In Hospitalized Children.
