Job Description

Welcome to the University of Nevada Police Department! We are currently seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a University Police Officer 2. As a member of our department, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of our campus community.   1. Ensure the safety and security of the university campus community by patrolling designated areas, responding to emergency calls, and enforcing university policies and state laws.
  2. Provide a visible and approachable presence on campus, establishing positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff to promote a safe and welcoming environment.
  3. Investigate and report any suspicious activity, criminal incidents, or violations of university policies, taking appropriate action as necessary.
  4. Respond to and handle emergency situations, including but not limited to medical emergencies, fires, and natural disasters, in a timely and professional manner.
  5. Conduct thorough and accurate investigations, gather evidence, and make arrests as needed.
  6. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all incidents, reports, and activities in accordance with department policies and procedures.
  7. Serve as a resource and provide guidance to members of the campus community regarding safety and security issues.
  8. Attend and participate in departmental meetings, trainings, and community events as required.
  9. Stay current on all state laws, university policies, and law enforcement techniques through ongoing training and professional development.
  10. Work collaboratively with other law enforcement agencies and departments to ensure coordinated and effective response to incidents.
  11. Demonstrate excellent judgment and decision-making skills, especially in high-stress and emergency situations.
  12. Uphold and promote the department's mission, values, and code of conduct at all times.
  13. Maintain a high level of physical fitness and readiness to respond to any situation that may arise.
  14. Adhere to all departmental policies, procedures, and standards of conduct, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
  15. Communicate effectively and professionally with individuals from diverse backgrounds, diffusing potentially volatile situations and maintaining a calm and respectful demeanor.
  16. Serve as a positive role model to fellow officers and the campus community, upholding the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and ethics.
  17. Continuously evaluate and assess the safety and security needs of the university,

Job Qualifications
  • Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience In Law Enforcement: The University Of Nevada Requires Candidates For The University Police Officer 2 Position To Have At Least 2 Years Of Experience Working In A Law Enforcement Agency. This Ensures That The Candidate Has The Necessary Skills And Knowledge To Handle Various Situations On A University Campus.

  • Bachelor's Degree In Criminal Justice Or Related Field: A Bachelor's Degree In Criminal Justice Or A Related Field Is A Preferred Qualification For The University Police Officer 2 Position. This Shows That The Candidate Has A Strong Understanding Of The Criminal Justice System And Can Apply It To Their Work As A University Police Officer.

  • Knowledge Of State And Federal Laws: University Police Officers Are Required To Enforce Both State And Federal Laws On Campus. Therefore, Candidates For This Position Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of These Laws And How To Apply Them In Their Daily Work.

  • Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills: University Police Officers Interact With Students, Faculty, And Staff On A Daily Basis. Therefore, Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills Are Essential For This Role. Candidates Should Be Able To Communicate Effectively And Build Positive Relationships With A Diverse Community.

  • Physical Fitness And Agility: University Police Officers May Be Required To Respond To Emergencies Or Physically Restrain Individuals. As Such, Candidates For This Position Should Be Physically Fit And Able To Perform The Necessary Duties Of The Job. They May Be Required To Pass A Physical Fitness Test As Part Of The Hiring Process.
