  1. Conduct respiratory assessments and develop individualized treatment plans for patients based on their medical history, current condition, and physician's orders.
  2. Administer various respiratory treatments, therapies, and medications to patients, including oxygen therapy, nebulizer treatments, and mechanical ventilation.
  3. Monitor and evaluate patient response to treatments, making necessary adjustments to ensure optimal outcomes.
  4. Document all patient care accurately and in a timely manner, including assessments, treatments, and progress notes.
  5. Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare team members to develop and implement a comprehensive care plan for patients.
  6. Educate patients and their families on respiratory conditions, treatments, and self-management techniques.
  7. Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of respiratory equipment and troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
  8. Adhere to infection control and safety protocols to maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients and staff.
  9. Stay updated on current trends and developments in respiratory therapy and implement evidence-based practices.
  10. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and provide input for the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to respiratory care.
  11. Provide support and guidance to respiratory therapy students and other staff members as needed.
  12. Maintain professional and ethical standards of practice at all times.
  13. Foster a positive and respectful work environment through effective communication and teamwork.
  14. Attend trainings, seminars, and conferences to enhance knowledge and skills and maintain professional licensure.

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree In Respiratory Care Or Related Field: A Minimum Of A Bachelor's Degree In Respiratory Care Or A Related Field Is Typically Required For A Respiratory Therapist, Rrt Position At The University Of Chicago Medicine.

  • Respiratory Therapist License In The State Of Illinois: All Applicants Must Hold A Valid Respiratory Therapist License In The State Of Illinois, Or Be Eligible For Licensure In The State.

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (Rrt) Credential: The University Of Chicago Medicine Prefers Candidates Who Have Achieved The Rrt Credential Through The National Board For Respiratory Care (Nbrc).

  • Minimum Of 2-3 Years Of Experience In A Clinical Setting: The Ideal Candidate Will Have At Least 2-3 Years Of Experience Working As A Respiratory Therapist In A Clinical Setting, Preferably In A Hospital Environment.

  • Strong Communication And Critical Thinking Skills: As A Respiratory Therapist, Rrt At The University Of Chicago Medicine, The Ability To Communicate Effectively With Patients, Families, And Other Healthcare Professionals Is Essential. Additionally, Strong Critical Thinking Skills Are Necessary For Making Quick And Accurate Decisions In Emergency Situations.
