- Develop and implement age-appropriate activities and interventions to help children cope with the challenges of illness and hospitalization.
- Collaborate with medical staff, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
- Build rapport and establish a trusting relationship with pediatric patients and their families.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to children and their families during hospitalization and medical procedures.
- Assess individual patient needs and create individualized treatment plans.
- Utilize therapeutic techniques to help children understand and manage their emotions.
- Educate and prepare children for medical procedures and treatments in a developmentally appropriate manner.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of patient interactions and progress.
- Communicate and collaborate with families to ensure they are informed and involved in their child's care.
- Stay updated on best practices and new developments in the field of child life to continually improve patient care.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to treatment planning.
- Provide support to siblings of hospitalized children and facilitate sibling visits.
- Collaborate with community organizations to provide resources and support for families.
- Advocate for the needs of pediatric patients and their families within the hospital setting.
- Maintain a safe and child-friendly environment within the hospital.
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, including infection control and patient confidentiality.
- Serve as a resource for hospital staff regarding child development and the impact of hospitalization on children.
- Participate in hospital events and programs for pediatric patients and their families.
- Actively participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
- Embody the mission and values of the University of Chicago Medicine in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
Bachelor's Or Master's Degree In Child Life, Child Development, Psychology, Or Related Field.
Certification As A Child Life Specialist (Ccls) Through The Association Of Child Life Professionals.
Minimum Of 2 Years Of Experience Working As A Child Life Specialist In A Hospital Or Clinical Setting.
Knowledge Of Child Development, Family Dynamics, And Coping Strategies For Children And Families Facing Medical Challenges.
Strong Communication And Interpersonal Skills, With The Ability To Work Collaboratively With A Multidisciplinary Team And Provide Emotional Support To Patients And Families.
