Welcome to the University of California, San Diego! We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr. Surgical Tech to join our dynamic Same Day Surgery team.   • Perform pre-operative tasks such as preparing the surgical room, sterilizing equipment, and ensuring all necessary supplies are available
  • Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, sponges, and other necessary items
  • Maintain a sterile and safe environment by following proper infection control protocols
  • Monitor patients during surgery and communicate any changes in their condition to the surgeon and anesthesia team
  • Collaborate with other members of the surgical team to ensure efficient and effective procedures
  • Ensure all equipment and instruments are properly maintained and in good working condition
  • Follow all hospital and departmental policies and procedures
  • Provide exceptional patient care by addressing any concerns or needs they may have before and after surgery
  • Participate in ongoing training and education to stay updated on current surgical techniques and technologies
  • Act as a role model and mentor for other surgical techs, providing guidance and support as needed.

Job Qualifications
  • Certification: A Minimum Of 3 Years Of Experience As A Certified Surgical Technologist Is Required For This Position. Applicants Must Possess A Valid Certification From The National Board Of Surgical Technology And Surgical Assisting (Nbstsa).

  • Clinical Expertise: The Ideal Candidate Should Have Extensive Experience In A Wide Range Of Surgical Procedures, Including Minimally Invasive Techniques. They Should Be Knowledgeable About The Latest Surgical Technology And Capable Of Assisting Surgeons In Complex Cases.

  • Teamwork And Communication Skills: As A Senior Surgical Tech, The Individual Will Be Responsible For Coordinating And Collaborating With Other Members Of The Surgical Team. Strong Communication Skills And The Ability To Work Well In A Fast-Paced, High-Stress Environment Are Essential For This Role.

  • Leadership Abilities: The Sr. Surgical Tech Will Be Expected To Take On A Leadership Role In The Same Day Surgery Department. They Should Have Experience In Training And Supervising Other Surgical Techs And Be Able To Make Decisions Independently When Necessary.

  • Adherence To Safety Standards: The University Of California, San Diego Places A High Priority On Patient Safety. The Ideal Candidate Should Have A Thorough Understanding Of Surgical Safety Protocols And Be Committed To Following Them Rigorously. They Should Also Be Able To Identify Potential Hazards And Take Appropriate Action To Prevent Accidents In The Operating Room.
